Cold Steel Man at Arms (MAA) Two-Handed Great Sword
This is the Man at Arms (MAA) version of Cold Steel's original Chinese War Sword (Product No. CST-88WGS).
The medieval man-at-arms was a stalwart and dependable fighter who exhibited great martial prowess with a range of weapons. He was the veteran of many conflicts and was often first into the fray. To honor these rugged, salt-of-the-earth warriors, Cold Steel has created a range of true journeyman's weapons called the Man at Arms Collection.
These battle-ready swords may lack the gleaming blades and polished silver steelwork of Cold Steel's high-end swords, but they are quite similar in quality and performance. The fully sharpened and blued blades have a distinctive gun metal finish that complements the black handles. And when well-oiled, they are gleamingly beautiful in their own right.
The Man at Arms collection features a selection of some of Cold Steel's finest blades, but at a markedly reduced price. If you always wanted a Cold Steel sword but couldn't afford one, this collection is made for you.
Cold Steel's two-handed Great Sword is the biggest sword they make. But don't let its size fool you, as there is nothing awkward or clumsy about this awesome weapon. Sure, it is big and meant to be carried over the shoulder, but it is extremely well-balanced and easily wielded by people of larger stature and physical strength.
Weighing about 3 kg, with a 1 m long high carbon steel blade, it will make short work of pikemen or swordsmen and will prove equally effective against modern rifle butts and bayonets.
The Germans also use the term Gassenhauer (literal translation: lane blower) for the two-handed Great Sword, as it allowed to literally clear a path by fencing one's way through enemy lines.
To protect the hands from opposing weapons, it features a large guard with side rings plus integral parrying hooks that allow the blade to be shortened for close range slashing and stabbing attacks.
The handle is extra-long to afford a full two-handed grip. It is capped by a heavy pommel that helps counterbalance the long blade and serves as an effective weapon in its own right.
The two-handed Great Sword is sturdy, strong, sharp and battle-ready.
